We’re on the homestretch now guys which makes the days tick even slower. It all seemed to go by so fast early March and then there’s been one event after another all around the world which contributed to the time flying by. Now that I’ve reached 38 weeks today the days drag slower than molasses. Well then I figured today would be great timing to do the nursery reveal.
At the very beginning of it all we had to start with removing wallpaper. To our surprise there was a second layer underneath. Like who in the world puts wallpaper over wallpaper? I googled ‘wallpaper over wallpaper’ out of curiosity and found that it can and has been done! It’s absurd. Palm to the forehead. I just couldn’t believe the extra work we ended up facing. But we muddled through and the results were well worth it! I went with a simple batten grid wall that I (hopefully) won’t get too bored of in a couple years. I also went with a medium grey for the color and as you can see, stuck with a neutral palette so my decorating fix can be satisfied way down the road. Yes, it happens (often) where I’ll want to suddenly change things up! Staying neutral gives me the flexibility to keep on decorating.
We went with the Delta Children Essex 4-in-1 Crib. I love the mid-century look on the legs and got a little compromise of the ‘bare’ wood style. I knew a white crib was the way to go against the statement wall but when I saw other natural wood selections I suddenly became indecisive. But this modern crib meets my expectation! It’s sleek and modern and definitely gives a great contrast against the grey batten grid wall.
We already owned a futon that was functioning as an additional sleeping arrangement in the guest room so we decided to bring it over to the nursery. I went back and forth on getting a nursing glider but decided against it. I’m sure whoever does night duty will appreciate having something to sleep on when baby is being fussing and refuses to sleep!
Vu built the book ledgers (I designed it of course) and we painted it the same color as the wall. Originally when we were going to have our baby shower the theme was for guests to each bring a book or two and of course, the baby shower never happened. I’m so grateful to everyone who contributed to Baby Tran’s first library collection even though it had to be sent by mail. I love walking pass the room and seeing the books on the wall. When Jordan was little we use to read together all the time. We read together at home, at the library, wherever we went. I want to share those same memories with this little one.
Still in love with the maternity session Steven Wallace took of us! You can find the full session (here). It was hard not printing them all out but we need to save some wall space for when we do our family/newborn session! If you’re in need of family photos or your own maternity session (while I’m out on leave) please get in touch with my good friend Steven!
Digging the felt pom pom garland? I got them off Etsy by TheBlushingFig and it’s two of the 7ft length.
Some other details worth mentioning is this hanging plant block below, made by my friend Alyssa. It was a gift from when I attended her Annual Ginger Rose Holiday Party. It originally was in my dining room but I think it’s perfect in the nursery wouldn’t you agree?
One of my favorite projects in the room is the custom shelves for this open closest. I want to do the same shelves for Jordan’s room and our master bedroom but that will come later. One thing I realized during the entire project is that most people will gladly do what’s needed to complete a nursery and when it comes to their own bedrooms, it can usually wait lol.
Well thanks to the hubby for making it exactly like I pictured. I know what you guys are thinking…open closest…how in the world will you have time to keep it tidy? That’ll be a challenge for sure but I just love the concept so much. I also figured we could always install sliding barn doors if we really wanted to close the closest back up.
I made the wall art myself with a little help from PubliWorks using their geometric animal shape. Everything else was just done in Photoshop! The frames are from Ikea.
These neutral white basket with leather handles are from Target. I ordered them online and it looked just as it did advertise so I’m happy with them. I will spare you guys the details of my online ordering adventures. With the quarantine that took place from Mid March until the end of April, all I could really do was order things online and not everything that came in was as expected. Ohhhhh online shopping! But I really am happy with these baskets. I’ll probably order a couple more larger ones to store toys and blankets when we start collecting those.
And this makes our baby boy’s nursery. We have one more week to go since the doctors want to discuss induction around 39 weeks + 6 days. So I’m one year pass the threshold of advanced maternal age. It just all depends on the doctors I suppose. It’s also cause I have gestational diabetes with this pregnancy. However it’s been unmedicated and diet control and I’ve read that with diet control most women will go on till their 40 week mark. So who knows. Just pray this babe comes on his own! But at the same time I really am anxious to meet this little one. I hope to share photos with everyone soon! Send us positive vibes and prayers! Until then!
