The week after my June New York trip I also had to fly Jordan out to California. He stays about a month with his dad for the summer and normally I try to make a trip out of it. I made weekend arrangements with my dear friend Matoli and during the planning decided to just go ahead and get some new headshots done. Matoli photographed Vu and I back in Oregon in 2014 and those photos were some of my favorites. I’m super impatient with having my own photos taken (gasp!!!) and rarely get updated headshots. So these were long overdue.
Sticking with the carefree bohemian style, I got my printed pants from Francesca’s. I wanted something that says fun and free spirit. The space we photographed in was Moniker Coffee over at Liberty Station. What I love most about California, well San Diego in particular is that you can coffeeshop hop easily. Same with New York but San Diego is way more chilled and chic. These are just a ‘teaser’ of the set Matoli got of me.
I’m also sharing some of my own film photos! I had Lomography 100 in my Contax G1 and boy did it love California light. I shot on Ektar 100 (naturally) too. I like Lomography 100 a lot, especially in the shade. It has a cool nostalgic feel to it and in direct light it’s more vibrant. The next time I go to California I’ll be sure to shoot some Agfa Vista 400, which you all know is my all time favorite go-to film stock for travel (where there’s lots of sunshine).
I explored both North and South Park San Diego and on the morning of my last day I grabbed coffee at Communal Coffee (Coffee + Flowers). Ugh I love San Diego y’all. Between San Francisco and San Diego, I can totally see myself living in south Cali. It was a relaxing time with my friend and I’m so grateful to have had that time with her. I also showed her how to cook Pho noodle soup! The highlight of my stay. We ate way too many bowls but our bellies were more than thankful, so not complaining. Thank you Matoli for my beautiful new branding photos and next time I’m out there, I look forward to you cooking for me (hint hint Pho noodle soup).
