It’s been quiet on the blog because we’re 10 weeks away from welcoming our baby girl! We have two names picked out (just like when we anticipated Brayden’s arrival) and when we hold our darling babe we will know which is the best fit for her! So that’s where we’re at at the moment.
Last year I couldn’t order Brayden the traditional Vietnamese tunic (Ao Dai) because it doesn’t come in sizes that small (under one) and it was too late to customize a size. So of course this year, I carved out time to search for the perfect outfit so that I could photograph my little guy for Lunar New Year.
I normally plan and style intimate gatherings and elopements for a creative shoot and of course for inspiration so it was a no brainer to stylize my own baby’s tea party. Before Brayden had friends come over we made sure to capture formals with Grandma and Grandpa first. Grandma was so thrilled and you can see the doting adoring smile she has for her first grandchild.
Big brother joined in a few photos and that totally made my heart happy! What you won’t see are photos of mama and her preggo belly. I would have been in the photos had I not been lazy to doll myself up. I hate to admit it cause I’m all about making memories rather then worrying about how I look but when you’re 10 weeks away from delivering it just takes double the time to get ready. Also, we’re focusing on Brayden !
The decor was super easy to set up since I always have things laying around the house to mix and match. I did purchase the paper pinwheel from Party City and stopped at my local Goodwill for the cake stands where I ended up spray painting it gold. I grabbed some new fabric from JoAnn’s so that we would have a gold table runner. Grandma made most of the dishes (which it’s customary to have certain dishes when celebrating Lunar New Year such as the Banh Tet, a savory rice cake filled with pork meat and mung beans) and the sugar cookies were custom ordered made by Stella Gallegra.
I won’t get deep into the traditions of Lunar New Year as each culture slightly celebrates it differently. But as I mentioned earlier, after formals Brayden had his two friends, Ariel and Alice join in and they had such a fun time digging into the treats and goodies. I cannot get over all this cuteness you guys!!! I loved watching Brayden pretend as he already loves drinking coffee (thanks Grandma). So pretending to drink tea was a joy for him!
It’s customary to hand out red (even gold) envelops that contain money, doesn’t matter the amount. But it signifies wealth, happiness and good fortune for the upcoming year. But the story behind it is that giving to the little ones wishes them health and growth while luck also manifests to the giver. We ended the tea party after handing out the envelops. I had so much fun planning this for Brayden and I can hardly wait until next year to do it again but with his little sister joining in! Happy Lunar New Year friends! Wishing you and your loved ones a year filled with good health, good fortune and happiness.
